Madness drummer Woody Woodgate goes solo
By Classic Pop | March 30, 2015
Madness drummer Woody Woodgate is the latest member of the band to announce a solo album, following the recent announcement that guitarist Cathal Smyth is releasing his debut solo album in May.
Woody Woodgate releases his own solo debut In Your Mind on June 1 on his own DW Records label, named after his real name Daniel Woodgate.
The album initially began as the second release for The Magic Brothers, Woodgate’s duo with his brother Nick, who released 2013 album The Magic Line; but Nick’s ongoing battle with schizophrenia meant he was unable to fully contribute to an album, although he does sing backing vocals.
Guest vocalists on the album include Woodgate’s wife Siobhan Fitzpatrick and The Velveteen Orkestra singer Dan Shears.
Woodgate is an ambassador for the charity Rethink Mental Illness alongside Dame Judi Dench, and In Your Mind’s title track describes his brother’s mental health battles.
Smyth and Woodgate remain members of Madness, who begin an extensive tour of sporting stadiums at Lincoln City FC on May 29, as well as headlining On Blackheath festival on September 13.
