Tears For Fears’ The Seeds Of Love will be re-released as a 4 CD/Blu-Ray super deluxe edition on
9 October 2020

More than 30 years after its original release, Tears For Fears’ third studio album The Seeds Of Love will be reissued as a deluxe boxset.

One of the band’s most acclaimed albums, The Seeds Of Love as more than four years in the making with a reported £1 million spent on its recording, for fans. Its scope ambition has made it a fan favourite. The band’s Roland Orzabal is in agreement: “Out of all our albums, I’d probably rank it highest. I think it surprised a lot of people.”

The super deluxe boxset of The Seeds Of Love will be release on 9 October and consists of four CDs and one Blu-Ray. The reissue comprehensively tells the story of how this album came to be with 22 unreleased tracks from demo sessions, live jams and studio sessions, along with a definitive set of B-sides and rare mixes. Highlights include demos of Advice For The Young At Heart, with Orzabal singing the lead vocal, and Rhythm of Life, which didn’t make it onto The Seeds of Love and was later given to Oleta Adams for her Circle of One album. The Blu-Ray also features a stunning 5.1 mix by Grammy-nominated artist Steven Wilson.

Coming off the back of multi-platinum-selling second album Songs From The Big Chair, Tears For Fears started writing for The Seeds Of Love on tour in 1985, making use of soundchecks to sketch the outlines of new songs. Over the next four years, Roland and Curt would work with several producers, engineers and multiple musicians before finally deciding to produce the album themselves with assistance from Songs From The Big Chair engineer Dave Bascombe.

Aforementioned pianist and singer Oleta Adams, who Roland and Curt had seen perform in the bar of their hotel while touring, was a key player in the making of The Seeds Of Love. She joined the recording sessions in early 1988 along with renowned session players including drummer Manu Katché and bassist Pino Palladino and would play a massive part in songs such as Woman In Chains and Badman’s Song. These 1988 sessions are perhaps the most fascinating tapes unearthed for the boxset. These jams took place at London’s Townhouse studio, and will feature on the reissue along with 30 minutes of in-studio live sessions, exactly as-performed at the time.

While the band were pleased with these sessions, there was still at least another year of further recording, overdubbing, editing, mixing, tweaking and discussion, before the final mix was finished in New York in the summer of 1989.
