Rick Astley returns with new single Love This Christmas
By Classic Pop | December 11, 2020
It’s going to be a very merry Rickmas this year as Rick Astley unveils the video for new single Love This Christmas.
Featuring Rick performing amid a flurry of snow and dancing snowmen, it’s a joyously festive video for a song that will almost certainly become a staple of future Christmas compilation albums.
“I really enjoyed making the video,” the star said, “it’s just a bit of fun after a tough 2020. Merry Christmas!️”
To accompany the single, Rick has launched a signed limited edition Christmas card, with all proceeds going to the Shooting Stars Children’s Hospices. A range of special #Rickmas merch is also available.
While 2020 has – as with all artists – restricted Rick’s activities, he seems to have made the best of the situation. He launched his TikTok channel earlier this year with a video of him dancing to Never Gonna Give You Up, which went viral and accumulated a staggering 21.6 million views and 4 million likes. His popularity on social media also extended to YouTube, where his covers of songs from the likes of Foo Fighters, David Guetta / SIA and Post Malone resulted in over 700,000 new subscribers over the course of the year.
Most recently, Rick released the charity single Every One Of Us alongside The Unsung Heroes to celebrate the Unsung Hero Awards 2020. The track continues to raise money for the BBC’s Children In Need.
Rick’s sold-out Greatest Hits arena tour has been rescheduled for next year. In addition to the tour, he will also play two free shows for NHS staff and frontline workers at Manchester’s AO Arena and the SSE Arena, Wembley, both of which sold-out within 30 minutes. The show starts a week in which he’s set to play three major shows in the capital, with the Palladium and the Royal Albert Hall also scheduled.
