Matthew began his career as a newspaper journalist but his life's passion has been making radio programmes, starting at his local hospital radio station in Hull aged 16. He has presented for more than 30 local commercial stations across the north of England prior to joining Absolute 80s in 2013 to produce and host Forgotten 80s, a cult programme of lost 80s gems with a huge social media following. A columnist and reviewer for Classic Pop since 2016, he still resides in East Yorkshire where he has a second career as a swimming teacher and is said to be "pushing 50".
